Details

Sticks and stones and other sharp, pointy objects won’t stop Continental’s Touring Plus tire. It's armed with Continental’s stalwart Security System, a tough sub-tread that prevents punctures. This layer is highly elastic, too, so that the ride remains light and lively. Plus, this tire sports Continental's Reflex sidewall striping for high visibility and safety.

Good flat protection, poor thread wear

Pros

Cons

  • Wears Easily

Best Uses

Comments:

My primary interest is in loaded touring. I'm most concerned about puncture resistance. After 2500 miles, I have had 1 flat with these tire. They are light and easy on/off. Due to thread wear, it's time for replacement. I got 7000 miles out of a pair of Schwable XR's for comparison. The Schwable's were less expensive per mile, but heavier, and maybe less puncture resistant.

    Comments:

Over 2000km on our tandem bike with these tires and no problems yet....We used Schwalbe Marathon Plus before and they were bullet proof but very heavy. It seems that Continental has struck a happy balance of light weight and puncture resistance. On the negative side, they appear to wear faster than the Schwalbe tires.

    Comments:

My commuter bike came with Continental Double Fighter tires which were getting flats every 100 miles. Primarily I was picking up metal shavings and glass on my commute route. My goal in replacing my tires was to reduce the number of flats. I chose the Touring Plus because the Continental web site claimed this tire has their best flat protection. Since upgrading to this tire, I haven't had a single flat in about 2000 miles of riding. I have been very happy with their performance. The tire comparison charts show this tire as a little heavier than other choices. I haven't noticed any difference, but I am not trying for a super-lightweight bike. My goal was to get the best flat resistance.
